MASTER THE MUCK

Driving in muddy conditions can be deceptive. You will need to get out and use a stick to check the depth of the mud or water. Jeep® Brand 4×4 vehicles have sealed electrical systems, a high air intake and available skid plates for additional undercarriage protection. To keep from spinning tires, experienced off-roaders often use a higher gear to control momentum and speed and let the tires’ tread do the work.

OFF-ROAD DIFFERENTIALS

Transferring power to the wheels is one of the most important aspects of 4x4 driving. Jeep® vehicles include either mechanical, electronic, or brake-assisted differentials to help maximize power delivery to your vehicle wheels for increased traction.

FRONT SWAY BAR DISCONNECT SYSTEM

This system, standard on the Wrangler Rubicon, lets you automatically disengage the front sway bar when driving under 18 mph in 4 Low mode. The front wheels can then drop and compress for improved articulation.

SKID PLATES

Many of our vehicles come standard with stamped steel skid plates. These high-strength steel plates are engineered to help protect your Jeep® Brand vehicle's guts when battling boulders and jagged rocks.

ROCK RAILS

Available extra-tough body-mounted rails (aka rock sliders or sill guards) help provide additional protection when off-roading.

BODY-ON-FRAME DESIGN

The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited are built with a frame that is fully boxed for strength, flexibility and durability.

DANA® 44 HEAVY-DUTY SOLID AXLES

Durability comes from heavy shafts, stiff housings, large pinion bearings and above-center pinion mountings for smoother, quieter operation. (Front Dana® 44 heavy-duty axle is standard only on the Rubicon. Dana 30 front axle is standard on all other models.)

Get 4×4 capability when needed without sacrificing efficiency. The available Jeep® Active Drive 4×4 System features a rear axle disconnect that seamlessly switches between two- and four-wheel drive to help increase efficiency when 4×4 capability isn’t needed. The Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System manages traction to give you all-weather capability in four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud.
